How does it influence the fuel consumption?
With Kraftwerk tuning the fuel burn efficiency is optimised and maximised. The car needs less fuel, you can drive longer with one full tank and your visits at the petrol station are less frequent.
Due to increased torque, the consumption reduces in normal driving conditions. Depending on the car and the engine type saves up to 15% are possible. Considering that the car is moved more than 90% in normal, non-aggressive mode, the fuel savings are substantial.
Fuel consumption, torque and rpm are in direct relationship to each other.
In principle, more fuel is burned at higher rpm. Through increasing of torque a faster up-shift is possible into the next gear therefore high rpm’s are avoided. The engine works most efficiently at the rpm figure where the torque is the highest.
Can I positively influence the fuel consumption with my driving style?
Of course you can. However the rules of physics are same for everyone, which means if you drive continuously in full throttle mode, the fuel savings will be hardly possible. Under normal driving conditions the fuel consumption is directly related to the rpm’s. As through the tuning the torque is increased, you can utilise a faster up-shift of gears and avoid driving at high rpm’s. All that positively contributes to saving fuel.
Higher fuel savings can be realised in long, travel journeys at constant average speed, highest gear and low rpm vs. stop-and-go city drive.
How it works
The actual ECU programming for the performance software takes about 3-5 hours, depending on the car. The upgraded software is tailored to your specific vehicle by our development partners in Germany and the new ECU files are usually returned to us overnight.
The ECU tuning procedure is as follows:
We arrange for a date for the tuning. You arrive with your car and we assess your current modifications (if any) and establish basis for your specific tune. Notes are made on brand and upgrades you may currently have on your car, which play a vital role in implementing an exact, tailor-made tune).The duration of the actual tuning depends on your car and ECU model. If we can download the software via the OBD (on-board-diagnostic) connector, the process takes approx 30mins – to 1 hour. Once the software is downloaded, you may have your car back for the day. We then back up a copy of your original software and send it electronically to Germany for modification along with the overview of your current modifications. The programming takes place (usually) overnight and we receive and install your new performance software for your car the next available day. The upload of the modified software usually takes place the next day (or any day of your choice). The upload again takes around 30 min and up to approx 1 hour.If we are unable to tune your car via the OBD connector, we will tune it with the ECU off the car.
If the tune needs to take place off the car, then the procedure takes usually a bit longer – approx 2-3 hours, as we need to take out the ECU off the car, and download the software that way. Usually your vehicle would need to stay with us overnight. If not possible, you can have the car back and come the next day or any day of your choice for the upload of the new performance software.
With our equipment and hardware we can tune over 90% of European cars, sports cars, Porsches, AMG cars, Subaru, Mitsubishi and others. In case we don’t have the right hardware (e.g. Lamborghini tuning) we would need to send out your ECU to Germany for the tuning. If that is the case, the turnaround for such is approx 8 days.
